Taylor Dunfee MapFaces/NinjaSonik/Mel's Photos @ Nixon Art Mosh

Telli and Jah-Jah

To politely borrow the eloquent words of Terry Smith "no idea about contemporary art is more pervasive than the idea that one can--even should--have no idea about it." I did not know any of the artists chosen by Nixon to adorn the cathedral ceilinged space where they hosted the Art Mosh over in Chelsea last night. The juxtapositions were well placed and the art was visible even with the massive amounts of lovely looking people in attendance to hang out, drink for free, dance, get down with NinjaSonik, and (le sigh) to look at art.

Taylor Dunfee's MapFaces bring cartography to another level; the artist manipulates geographic landscapes into faces through crosshatched pen drawings. Bravo.
