Last night I found myself in an abandoned school in NoLITa to peep RE:FORM SCHOOL, a large scale group exhibition, curated with the intent to raise money for educational reform. Walking through what used to be classrooms, cafeterias, and hallways I found the likes of many great artists. To name a few---Shepard Fairey, SWOON, Mark Ecko, and my favorite of the night, Derek Gores' piece: a famous photograph of astronauts in space replicated through collage and made from the recycled work of students. Ariel managed to jam the paper shredder made from an old school desk and Anne Grauso and I were lucky enough to meet one of the artists, Greg Betza ( I didn't catch a photo of his work). Naturally an event of this scale led to a successful turn out: I saw Rosie Perez (who lost her signature accent due to voice lessons [le sigh]) and Joshua Liner, too. One person who was supposed to be present and did not see was Joel Klein, Chancellor of NYC Public Schools; maybe it was for the better--not really a fan of this man to begin with.

For more info on the exhibition, which runs October 9th to the 11th, at 233 Mott Street check out their website : Re:Form School
